Thank you. I had not noticed the scanner not working, I do use it, but not so often. It would be a nice touch if cups automagically offered the option to install hplip when it was searching for drivers. I used the cups web page (http://localhost:631/printers/) to configure the printer and it gave me the option to install 3 different "Discovered Network Printers:", two of which look identical and a third option was similar. It does have "HP Printer (HPLIP)" as an option for local printers, but to me a local printer is a USB printer. Also "HPLIP" does not automatically convey to all users, especially new users, that this option is needed if you want to use the scanner. Partly my fault I guess as I did not even try to use or even look for the Gnome or KDE system tools, which I tried just now and the Gnome one works well. Even so, the cups web interface could do with a bit of polish, even just more information.
The Cups web interface includes a "Bugs - Features" tab, I will raise this issue there as Bug 636887 appears to of been dealt with. Thank you very much for your time and effort. Regards Andrew.
