OK hi again. I manually reinstalled ALSA drivers to .23 and now I do
have sound via HDMI. I had to manually unmute the SPDIF output via
alsamixer, but it did the trick.

However, sound is somehow cracked on most MP3 and I still have no sound
on my browser.

I've switched sound preferences to Pulseaudio, since the ALSA option is
not shown on System -> Preferences -> Sound (maybe because I updated it
manually?). The beep/test button does work, but it emits a somehow
cracked beep instead of the single frequency it should.

I reckon this might be an issue with sample sizes. I played an MP3 file
via VLC and got the cracked sound. However, when I manually specified
that it be played at 48.000 Hz, sound was crystal clear... But then,
after I stopped playback, another undesired frequency came up and I had
to mute my TV set.

So: is there a way I can tell my system to upscale all audio to 48.000
Hz so that sound is correctly played? And a way to stop that undesired
frequency from showing up aftar playback?

I'm willing to do any test, any reading, and provide you with any
information you might request.

Thanks in advance.
