OK hi again. I manually reinstalled ALSA drivers to .23 and now I do have sound via HDMI. I had to manually unmute the SPDIF output via alsamixer, but it did the trick.
However, sound is somehow cracked on most MP3 and I still have no sound on my browser. I've switched sound preferences to Pulseaudio, since the ALSA option is not shown on System -> Preferences -> Sound (maybe because I updated it manually?). The beep/test button does work, but it emits a somehow cracked beep instead of the single frequency it should. I reckon this might be an issue with sample sizes. I played an MP3 file via VLC and got the cracked sound. However, when I manually specified that it be played at 48.000 Hz, sound was crystal clear... But then, after I stopped playback, another undesired frequency came up and I had to mute my TV set. So: is there a way I can tell my system to upscale all audio to 48.000 Hz so that sound is correctly played? And a way to stop that undesired frequency from showing up aftar playback? I'm willing to do any test, any reading, and provide you with any information you might request.
