IBM T500 laptop, same issue - upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 resulted in
battery life being halved. This appears to be directly related to power
consumption doubling from 17W to 34W, so at least there's correlating
data. :)

I have tested with both the IBM "Discrete graphics" (ATI card) and
"Integrated Graphics" (Intel I965GM) settings, using the proprietery
fglrx driver for the ATI card. Even with X not running at all, I can't
get power consumption in 10.04 below 32W.

I have tested with 2.6.32-22-generic, a custom 2.6.31.5, and a custom
2.6.34, all with the same utilization results.

Since I custom-build my kernel (for VMM improvements, size and "core2"
enhancements vs "generic"), I reinstalled the 2.6.31.5 kernel I was
using with Ubuntu 9.10, and had the exact same power utilization, so I'm
not sure that it's actually a kernel bug, except that powertop reports
very high wakeups, as shown below.

I've added on to bug 562043, since I think this is an acpi or other
hardware management problem.
