There are two different bugs: * This warning is not clarifying and does not explain the danger, nor does it point to a stable URL for further references.
* Grub2 became so greedy that finally we have the only booting scheme that cannot fit decently and politely inside its own partition, leaving to the owner of the computer the decision of whatever he wants to put inside MBR. This is more arrogant than Windows overriding MBR during install, as for the latter there is at least the reliable circumvention of reinstalling to the MBR whatever was there before. The second is a severe bug but it should be filed separately. ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- grub-setup: warn: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445416 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
