@Alexey: You're right about the fact that clicking a specific item should open up that item and not anything different. Still, this can be confusing for people like me who never navigate through single feeds (and have no left pane), but only use the global "Unread" view.
I like your proposal for option b) very much! It would solve all problems: People accustomed to single-feed view could set the "[x] Include individual feeds" marker - like you proposed - and people who only use Liferea's unread-category could deactivate this extra functionality to only see the one-line entry in the indicator-applet.
