Ok, I would be happy to help isolating this issue. I will try the newer kernel 
today. I'm afraid I can't get an update for my BIOS because the laptop is out 
of warranty and the original BIOS manufacturer (which is Phoenix) doesn't allow 
me to get one (at least in the past I couldn't find one on their site, only 
some third party distributors had some pointers that they have something but 
what they had wasn't what I needed). 
So the BIOS firmware upgrade is pretty much out of the question (I will retry 
to get my hands on a update but don't hold your breath, I don't think my 
"firmware hunting" will be successful).
In the past i didn't use the noapic option only the idle=mwait option. I use 
noapic option now, but I will switch off this for testing on both kernels.
