A little further info:

As of this afternoon's update, which I saw involved a netbook-launcher
change, this problem is still occurring.

Since the update of yesterday (15 Apr '10) I now have a graphical boot
and shutdown sequence for the first time on 10.04, although early in the
bootup, the colours are distorted with the logo, text & progress buttons
having a green fringe. However, the colour for fonts in the launcher is
still black on a dark background.

I see that this bug is marked "incomplete"; what further info do you
need from me to make it complete?
