@Goh: no, I did'nt install plymouth @Stèphane: I don't know, but my guess is no. My procedure simply reset KDM configuration to the default, this let me point my finger to KDM rc files, there is probably something wrong when you don't do a clean exit from KDE that messes up the config files. BTW I did not experience the problem again after the "cure"
