I’m not sure how I was supposed to close kmix, I think I did it right, but let me describe to make sure: I opened System → System Monitor, selected the kmix process and then hit the ‘Kill Process...’ button. If I issue the sudo fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/* /dev/audio* /dev/mixer* /dev/seq* command after doing so again, only knotify4 shows up.
