@Mark Fernandes: You would not see this in 9.04 because the utilities to manage the dvd drive have changed between 9.10 and 10.04. The new method, through udev, just needs to be updated to include support for disabling polling for your series of dvd drive. That is what Martin Pitt has been working on.
