the nvidia/xrandr worked for me with my AOC monitor and a Radeon HD 4600: xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_nv" 138.50 1920 1968 2000 2080 1080 1083 1088 1111 +hsync -vsync xrandr --addmode CRT2 1920x1080_nv
I then went into System | Preferences | Display and reset to 1920x1080 and rebooted.
