Not sure, if this is helpful, but https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/513890 seems to be similar. All reports about this kind of problem seem to use 2.6.32 + nvidia. I have tested resume with 2.6.31, but same problem with that.
I noticed, that I can switch to tty1.
