What happens if you use i915.modeset=0 instead of i915.modset=0 ? In any respect, I don't think the reported bug is one which we will be able to fix, since the i915.modeset=0 option will stop working once the driver is updated to 2.10.0. The other bug, i.e. that the computer doesn't boot at all without the option, should be reported.
