I am running the 64 bit Kubuntu 9.10 with the xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.0-1.ubuntu2 video driver.
Second Life has no video artifacts and runs well. Stellarium shows the stars and I can navigate among them, but the configuration screens are illegible. Running the 64 bit Kubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx B2 (12/23/09) I noticed that in Stellarium, the situation has switched. Now the config screens are viewable and usable, except that once they are displayed you cannot dismiss them, and the star field is black.
