If so, please, note that your Dpkg log says that
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
Failed to symbolic-link boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic to initrd.img: File
exists
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 17
which means that you should have a file named as new kernel need to be
named. Please rename it and try again.
