The number of ubuntu users who read scientific articles is probably high. Perhaps we can advertise this bug more broadly to get more attention. Maybe we could even contribute a bit of money towards paying a developer to fix this. If people are willing to pay money to buy things like EndNote I can imagine some people willing to pay towards getting this fixed.
