As I mentioned before, this bug seems to be related to compiz and therefore does not effect kubuntu at all.
Kubuntu also has desktop effect which work with the current graphic card driver, and no downgrade is required. I see no reason to have to downgarde just because I prefer gnome to KDE. On a personal note, I had graphical problems with Intel and ubuntu 9.04 as well, I was hopping 9.10 will finally sort things out. I'm starting to get really frustrated with ubuntu. In 9.04 the hack was to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which doesn't even exist in 9.10, even though if created will effect the system. It's a shame this bug is ruining our ubuntu experience.
