As a U123 user I can tell, with no irony here, that the best "workaround" is a regression to 9.04. And I think that MSI Wind users should be advised in the release note to remain on Ubuntu 9.04 instead of upgrading to 9.10.
If you set a nomodeset parameter at boot you can hide the problem, but cant lift.
