with apache2 uninstalled after the kde login "kde hangs" I think not the system ctrl alt bksp drops to the command prompt /etc/init.d/kdm stop fails, pkill -9 kdm shutdown -h now brings the system to mount / busy will halt but the system does not, so I need to power off, shutdown -h now does power down in ubuntu kernel releases prior to 2.6.20
