Has happened a lot (maybe half of the "very difficult" games) lately. Common element seems to be that they are all puzzles where I tracked potential solution, cleared tracker, then re-solved; sometimes several iterations, but always ending with a filled-in puzzle, no conflicts, no ta-da, and Sudoku saving the game as if it were not completed. Has happened on two machines now, both using Ubuntu 9.04. I've always wondered if Sudoku puzzles could have more than one solution. Most puzzles seem much more like a labyrinth than a maze in other words. Wish I had the mathematical chops to come up with a proof one way or the other. But in this most recent game I'm reasonably certain that I followed the only valid path arriving at the solution, eliminating all other possible entires along the way (in other words, every time I guessed I guessed wrong and had to go back and pick the sole remaining possible), so I find it hard to accept that I discovered an alternate solution this particular time.
