i think the problem, (don't know if its the same as the original poster), might be caused due to the nvidea drivers... cause out of desperation i did a fresh install.. and i did a restart after i added these drivers and the problem immediately started to occur again... and by using some kinda safe boot/recovery, it somehow disabled the driver and the problem was gone...
