If you have successfully installed the new kernel (2.6.31-8.28), then you 
will have success after you have found a non-destructive way to reboot or 
power down your system New kernel replacement and use only occurs after a 
reboot cycle. The original (older kernel = 2.6.31-7) remains in-place until 
the system is correctly shut down. If you are offered a choice of kernels at 
boot then choose the latest = 2.6.31-8.28!

with new kernel 2.6.31.8 for kubuntu karmic alpha4 x86 64, no change and
stay blocked when will shutdown but now when i start the system it ask
to choose one of all kernel while i have need cut the power the
shutdown....

-saving system clock ok
-shutting down ALSA ok
