Dear nicole, per default when you are installing ubuntu, one specific
step said that you have to create a user account with password. When you
are trying to install any application, you need admin privileges
(generally know as root), every time you need install or reconfigure any
configuration of your system you need that password. Actually I don't
understand very well your problem, shall you explain a litle bit more
detailed what are you doing and what do you expect?

Best regards
