If you read the details of my previous post, interference is definitely not the problem (this happens with both 2.4 and lone 5GHz networks).
The one thing that made me able to use wireless was a hint a caught somewhere else: iwconfig wlan0 power on It didn't get rid of the problem, but now I can use the network, even with several GB file transfers.
