Ok, I investigated this problem further and found out that by installing the package "gstreamer0.10-plugins-good", I was able to listen to mp3 and ogg vorbis files as well as inserting them into OpenOffice Impress slides. Furthermore, installing the package "gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg" allowed me to watch avi movie files as well.
While this solved my original problem, I think this is not the way it should be. A novice or casual user would probably not have found out how to solve this problem, given that OpenOffice did not tell the user what was wrong (e.g. via a pop-up) and neither proposed to install the missing packages for the user. I think that OpenOffice should do the latter or, alternatively, should automatically install at least the gstreamer0.10-plugins-good package via a dependency. -- OpenOffice Impress: Movies do not play https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375891 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
