It seems to be the driver for my ethernet card that is causing the
problem. I am using a Realtek RTL8111/8168B. I had to go through
certain steps to 'blacklist' the driver that was being recognized in
Ubuntu and make it use the driver for 8168 instead of using the RTL8169
driver. After I disabled the driver I had installed the shut down
seemed to go fine. I have only had time to test this once though.
Anyone else have the same ethernet card?
