Perhaps the error is relateted to the south bridge? Daniel Rozo and I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 having SB600 from ATI. The south bridge of bwashed's compaq 6715b is SB600, too, if the informations I found using google are right. If that is true, at least three of us have the same south bridge.
What about the others? Do you have the same south bridge? You can find it out by running lspci from a terminal. And look for "SB600" in the output.
