Confirming this bug. I am running only Openbox, and setting the date even a couple of seconds back instantly causes the described unresponsiveness (mouse moves, applications update the screen normally, but clicks and keys do nothing). There is a way to avoid the power- cycle:
Hit Alt+SysRq+R, then Alt+F1.
