I am experiencing 3-minute boot-time startups (almost to the second on my Thinkpad T41 2378DHU) to get to the login screen for an 2.6.17.14 kernel (which I built myself from linux kernel source) running in an Edgy environment. This long boot time did not occur when I was running in a Dapper environment with the exact same kernel. When I did a distribution upgrade, the bootup slowness showed up.
When booting with a 2.6.18.1 kernel on the same Edgy system, boot time went down to 20-to-30 seconds. (However, other problems occurred, like broken suspends and hibernates.) However, I do not see the system "trackpoint" screen output when I'm booting, even though I turned off the "quiet" output from grub's menu.lst--in fact, I don't see anything on my screen with the 3-minute "stall" occurs, but I do get a lot of disk activity. Maybe this lack of output is a feature of my .config in my kernel? If so, any idea what variable I can change to get more-detailed display? Also, does anyone have a work-around idea for my 2.6.17.14 stall symptoms, assuming that the trackpoint stuff is a root cause? Is there a way to disable the trackpoint gizmo (I rarely use the built-in mousepad, and when I do, probably none of the advanced features)? -Matt -- boot stall after displaying "IBM Trackpoint..." https://launchpad.net/bugs/74522 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
