Hmm :-) Until 3 days ago I used intrepid on my Vaio FW21E, with the radeon driver, and it did not feel sluggish at all.
Although I could not enable KDE's desktop effects, overall drawing performance seemed very good. In jaunty, X uses more CPU and painting is much slower, in comparison.
