We are sorry for all your problems, Gerard, I don`t know if a new KDE 4.1 revision (bugfix) will be released some day. Really KDE 4.1 is not very mature, and Kubuntu 8.10 have many issues by this. Try to not use problematic widgets. KDE 4.2 final version is expected for the end of January, be patient, you will can install it in your Kubuntu 8.10 if you want. I hope for you to have a better experience with KDE 4.2 and with the future Kubuntu version 9.04 which will be released on April.
