I saw that if I tried to save the image (right-click on the emoticon),
the files didn't have an extension and there was a message saying that
the file type was not recognised and that it would be converted to PNG.
But they actually are not saved to the folder where I saved them to,
they went to my home folder.

I tried adding the Ubuntu animated image you gave me and it worked (I
used the menu to see all my emoticons and then managed my custom ones).
The funny thing is that after this, adding emoticons (used in the
conversation) began working.

I got non-animated emoticons added this way and they work. However when
I used an animated one my boyfriend saw it without animation and he said
it had been like 1/4 of the image was displayed. Then I tried saving and
using another animated emoticon and he didn't see anything (just white)
and I saw the emoticon but it was not animated. Could it be that others
can't see these emoticons because they've been saved to the wrong
folder?
