Martin, Do you speak portuguese? If yes, I'd prefere it. Answering about my webcam, I say tried to disable the webcam in the bios, but it was not possible.
Anyway, I suppose we are trying to solve the problem for the community (which is having it, as the link that I sent you and others on the Internet, in Portuguese, therefore I did not send you, for yet I don't know whether you talk my language) and not only my particular case - so the disabeling was not the case, I think. As to your second question, I say yes; I used normally the version 8.04; when installed 8.10 happens the problem (as well as inconsistencies in Google Earth), that forced me to reinstall the 8.04, which worked perfectly until I made work the update maneger - from that point on it showed the same slowness of 8.10's boot. It occurred after the installation of 8.10 (I do not know if after the upgrade or not).
