Wil: After you suspend your computer and it does "cause system to hang and monitor to blank", you restart the system to get a usable desktop. After the restart, please attach /var/log/kern.log.0
Do you get a desktop back or a blank screen? The original report was a desktop that is complete with a mouse pointer.
