Yes, after reading some threads on the Ubuntu Forum, I heard that adjusting the PCM slider fixed the problem for some. Although when I adjust the PCM slider (as well all the others), the distortion does not go away, it just gets quieter.
Another thing that I noticed is the sound when Ubuntu first starts up (when you are brought to the long in screen) is fine.
