What GTK engine are running for KDE? I always found that these can be buggy, with the exception of QtCurve seems to work for me. Try this: Install QtCurve (sudo aptitude install gtk2-engines-qtcurve kde4-style- qtcurve-kdeconfig) Change the GTK engine for KDE 4 in System Settings > Appearance > GTK Styles and Fonts. Under GTK Styles choose Use Another Style: and choose QtCurve.
