Same problem here. Wherever Compiz is on or not, 3D transitions just crash Impress (and every other openoffice program open). CPU: Intel Pentium M 1,8 Ghz VIdeo Card: Intel GMA950 Ubuntu 32 Bits, 8.10 (intrepid ibex).
PS: Even with the experimental openoffice.org 3.0 packages, 3D transitions just crash again.
