Sidarth,

Still, this behavior brings nasty surprises with it, so it is definitely
a bug :( It's kinda sad that most laptops suffer from it.

1. Hard drives spin up when they should not -- physical damange to computer may
result from this behavior.
2. Delay between opening lid and having a message prompts user to press the
power button, which disrupts the boot which destroys data
3. Lids open for many reasons including status checks, latch failure, lack of
latch, inspection of machine (keyboard), showing off computer, removal of
stylus for use in other wacom tablet device, and many many others.
4. No significant benefit exists for having the laptop turn on by opening lid.
-- maybe 1 second of time savings? -- power users can still configure this
behavior
5. it takes a lot of time to deal with an unplanned laptop power on, the user
must resuspend the computer. This costs the user more time than is saved by
possible benefits in 4
6. battery is wasted in this whole process.

I started looking at the Guidance power management code to see if I could
help make this behavior be configurable. I'll open a separate feature request
as you suggested.

Thanks!
