MLdonkey uses UTF8 internally by default. The charset is uses when creating filenames is derived from $LANG when MLDonkey starts, I do not consider this a bug, but a feature. Ubuntu needs to ensure a valid environment for MLDonkey being able to determine the correct charset to be used.
