gerstrong, i did it exactly the way you describe above, but for me this does not work. Neither for skype nor for cheese.
And, what i wrote above is wrong. The 0.5.1 of libv4l does not make ekiga to work for me. it only worked once, but i closed it and started it again, and now the green screen is back. So for my webcam, libv4l does not work, with no application at the moment.
