It's marked 'Incomplete' because we don't have enough information yet to
triage the bug. We need to locate the package or cause and then move the
bug to that team's queue.

1) Are we sure it's related to downloading updates?
Have you found any clues in syslog?
Does this ONLY happen when update-notifier is downloading?
If so, can it be reproduced by running Synaptic or 'sudo apt-get -d upgrade'?
Can the crash be prevented by disabling update-notifier? (Software Sources -->
Updates --> Uncheck 'Check for updates')

2) Nature of the crash? Is it a crash?
When this occurs, is the system completely unresponsive?
If not, can you run top or System Monitor to find the offending app? If
possible try to get output of top to attach to this bug report.
If unresponsive, does restarting X fix it, or does it need a reboot?

3) Memory leak?
If you're running you system for several days, can you track memory usage every
12 hours or so?

Possible duplicates: bug 223722 , bug 248010
