I'd like to upstream this bug, however we don't have sufficient
information to report it up.  Could you please boot into a session where
you're seeing this performance regression with compiz enabled, and
attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from that session?

Also, if possible please retest against intrepid-beta or newer, either
via an updated installed environment, or a LiveCD (which you can get
from cdimage.ubuntu.com).

@tuxo and everyone else, thanks for giving an indication that the issue
may be present in alpha-6.  At this point we don't have proof that you
and antonio have precisely the same issue - performance issues can often
have similar symptoms but unrelated causes (especially where the
graphics hardware isn't identical).  My guess is that with 3D enabled
it's invoking software rendering to occur - but that's just a guess, and
if it's true, the issues that cause that can vary widely.  We'll know
more once we have an Xorg.0.log and can upstream the bug.
