I've unduplicated this, as Bug #252630 is wl driver specific. This is still happening with current hardy proposed - linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-21-generic 2.6.24-21.27 Booting to the 2.6.24-19, everything works fine.
Booting to the proposed kernel, the device is detected but will not connect to any wireless network.
