Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 installation to Ubuntu 8.10 Beta
using the 'update-manager -d' method. As I described in
ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=940015 I had various problems after
the installation but the one that really frustrated me was that my
Places menu didn't work correctly. Clicking on items such as the home
folder or the music folder didn't load in Nautilus but instead caused
the following error message:

Unable to create CD/DVD
The file '/home/user/Music' is not a valid disc image.

Another person had a very similar problem after the upgrade but instead
of the Nautilus Burning software kicking in, F-spot did. He eventually
worked it out as problem with file:
/home/"username"/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list having the
wrong mime type for 'inode/directory'.

I'm no developer so I was wondering if anyone could investigate whether
anything within the upgrade process is touching this file and if so,
check that it doing it in a safe way? We don't want this causing
problems when Intrepid gets released properly.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
