I can understand Andy's frustration. I went through the same
aggravation several months back. This is the main reason I'm still
using Gutsy. I can also understand Sebastien's point that there are
limited resources and a ton of bugs to be fixed. All of the developers
work goes much appreciated.

But... Realistically, optical media drives have been around for over a
decade, maybe closer to two. I think the most disappointing thing is
the priority level of this bug/bugs. I find it hard to believe that
there are over ten thousand more 'important' issues than this. I would
consider this issue the same priority if a bunch of video cards, hard
drives, key boards or another major devices just stopped working on a
LTS release.

What's the point of having a nice office suite if you can't back your
work up on a CD? What's the sense of having firewire card support to
import home video if you can't put it on a DVD? What's the point of
importing photos from your camera if you can't put them on a CD to send
to family in the next time zone? What's the point of pirating movies
off the internet if you can't put them on them on a DVD? (Ok, the last
one was a joke, but you see my point).

I definitely think this issue should not have a low/none-existent
priority. I would like to upgrade from Gutsy as some point. On the
other hand, I guess there's lots of other distros out there.

My 2 cents.
