I get the point that the logs are difficult to get :) One option is for those who have upgraded their installation to edgy and are experiencing this bug: boot with another live cd (or another installed linux if you have dual-boot) and fish out the logs from the edgy partition. Christian, thanks for the log, I hope it is representative for the original bug.
Another debug possibility for those familiar with the command line: boot with "break=bottom" and disable X11 by removing the gdm startup script. At least that will give us the xorg.conf as configured by the live system. If now someone can install ssh at this point, and log in to the computer while starting X11 manually that could be interesting. For instance, run "sudo cat /proc/kmsg" in the ssh session, and then start X from the console (or in a second ssh session). grkravi, you seem to have a different card than ATI? Maybe you have a different bug. ** Summary changed: - [edgy][regression][ati] usplash freezes system when starting X + [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and full freeze when X starts -- [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and full freeze when X starts https://launchpad.net/bugs/67487 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
