I seem to have encountered the same bug when trying the 6.10 i386 live
CD. If I leave the graphics options as default then the splash screen
appears albeit with a green horizontal line near the middle. After the
progress bar reaches the end, it freezes while still inside the splash
screen.

If I use F4 to change the graphics mode to anything higher then the
default, then instead of freezing in the splash screen it will display a
message saying X failed to start, if I ignore this warning and continue
I am dumped at the black screen with a blinking cursor.

My specs are:
Athlon64 3200+
Asus A8N-SLI
Ati Radeon X800GTO
1GB DDR400
SATA hard drives
