Ok, so when booting ubuntu with splash screen, the computer freezes up. When
booting it without the splashscreen, it looks like #22985
Two possible causes for this:
1. usplash doing bad things
2. kernel console framebuffer interfering with X.
Judging from past personal experience utilising console framebuffers, the
latter seems to be more probable. Therefore re-applied to product "kernel" and
assigned to kernel video team.
