I'm also experiencing this problem with a G550 on amd64 which means I can't use Paulo's deb. I tried to compile from the Debian unstable package but that didn't work (probably because I'm not familiar with the compilation process).
Is anyone else concerned that this critical bug which affects multiple video cards has yet to be given a status by the Ubuntu dev team? The package maintainer hasn't even responded to the bug which was reported nearly 2 months ago.
