Following are my everyday usage software list:

Kate, Gedit, vim - for programming and texts (Yes, I don't like IDE)
git - for Source Code Management
MonoDevelop - for C# (I hate this)
OpenOffice.org - I want to use lighter, like AbiWord, but stuck to OOo
for MSOffice compatibilty
QtOctave - nice GUI for Matlab alternative Octave
gnuplot - for data plotting (plotdrop for GUI front-end)
QtiPlot - non-linear regression alternative for Origin
Kile - for latex front-end (one of the best)
Firefox - well, what can I say. But I want a nice webkit based
browser, come on Chrome!
Ekiga - for telephony
Pidgin - for IM, IRC
Skype - for audio-video chat

... and many more.

Well, I am neither a KDE lover nor a Gnome die-hard. I use what I need
to use. I like enlightenment (e17) and sometimes use ion3 when I need
more power from my PC.
